Come and explore the magic of Precious Metal Clay. You can make your
own silver jewelry! PMC is an exciting new material that offers a new
way to work with silver. Microscopic particles of fine silver are
suspended in an organic binder with water. After kiln firing, the
binder burns away leaving a creation that is pure silver!
Please register in advance by calling with your payment or by mailing your check to us.

Beginning PMC
(recommended before taking any other classes (including Open Studio)
An introduction to this exciting new material. Learn the basics of
handling and working with PMC as you make 1-3 pieces of fine silver
jewelry. You’ll be amazed at what you can do! No experience necessary.
Construction Techniques - Making Hollow Forms (& More Forms)
Learn construction techniques using Precious Metal Clay to make a
hollow pendant. For those who have taken this class once, you can try
your hand a different, more complicated hollow form. These useful
techniques will allow you to expand your ability to create more complex
designs with PMC. Experience with PMC preferred for best results.
Beads & Paper (& More Beads)
Learn to form a bead using Precious Metal Clay. You will also make
earrings and decorate both with PMC Paper. For those who have taken
this class once, you can try your hand at working with a different,
more complicated bead form. These useful techniques will allow you to
expand your ability to create more complex designs with PMC. Experience
with PMC preferred for best results.
Torch Firing
Learn how to fire PMC3 to completion using a small hand held Crème
Brulée torch. While this firing method has its limitations, it works
well for small pieces and gives you a way to fire PMC without investing
in a kiln. You will also learn to torch fire an enamel accent onto a
piece. Experience with PMC preferred for best results. Class size
limited to 6 students.
Setting Stones in PMC3
Learn how to add stones to accent your jewelry. Not all stones can be
fired into PMC3, so we will discuss what works and why. You will make a
piece of jewelry into which you will set synthetic stones and fire in
place. We will also discuss the use of bezels and prong settings in PMC
applications. A limited selection of additional stones will be
available for purchase. Experience with PMC preferred for best results.
Findings and Clasps - perfect for those beaded creations!
Learn to make your own unique decorative clasps for your jewelry
designs. You will make hook and loop and toggle clasps in this class.
Bails and other findings will be discussed and demonstrated. Other
pieces/clasps can be made as time and material permit. Experience with
PMC preferred for best results.
Make your own Designer Buttons in PMC!
Ever wish you had the perfect button to add to that special sweater or
felted bag? Learn to make your own unique buttons using PMC. Discover
how a mold can help you to make multiples of your design. Beginner and
beyond.
Open Studio/Project Choice...
This open studio session allows you to bring in your project for help
and consultation, or create a new one from the optional projects I’ll
have available. This will be one-on-one consultation on your specific
project, rather than a class doing the same project. Tools provided or
bring your own. Torches and kilns available for firing. Experience with
PMC preferred for best results. Some projects offered assume knowledge
of construction techniques. *Materials fee “a-la-carte.” Purchase the
clay, paper, or stones that you need for your project.
Keum-boo Techniques on PMC
For those artists who would like to add a little gold to their PMC. You
will make a project that uses Keum-boo or Korean Gold (a 24 karat. gold
foil material). Students should be prepared to make a lightly textured
piece on which to apply the Keum-boo. Experience with PMC preferred for
best results. *Additional materials fee of $10.00 for gold foil.
